Women's Lacrosse Set to Face Pfeiffer in USA South First Round

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont University women's lacrosse team will face No. 6 Pfeiffer in the opening round of the USA South tournament at home for the second year in a row. The Lions earned the No. 3 seed after dropping just two contests during the regular season.

Piedmont went 7-2 in conference play, only dropping games to No. 1 Methodist and No. 2 Meredith while picking up a 15-14 road win over No. 4 Southern Virginia and a dominant home win over No. 5 Brevard.

Piedmont 8, Meredith 19 (4/27/24 in Demorest, Ga.)

Piedmont dropped their final regular season contest to the USA South No. 2 seed Meredith. The Avenging Angels took a 7-3 lead after the first period before going on a 7-1 run in the second period to take a 14-4 lead into the half time break.

Senior Maggi Spratlin scored a hat trick in the contest but the deficit remained too large for the Lions to mount a comeback.

The contest closed in favor of Meredith 19-8.

REGULAR SEASON V. PFEIFFER

Piedmont 16, Pfeiffer 8 (3/23/24 in Demorest, Ga.)

Piedmont had a hard fought contest with the Falcons during the regular season. After the first half, the lead was just two, 8-6.

The Lions started to pull away in the third period, holding Pfeiffer to just one goal while Ava Trankina put in a pair of goals, including the final one of the period to give her team a 11-7 lead. 

Then in the fourth, the defense held Pfeiffer to just one goal again, while pilling in five on the offensive side. 

Piedmont would go on to score the final three goals of the contest to secure their 16-8 win.

- The Lions and Falcons had a hard fought contest in the regular season as the game was separated by just two goals at half.
- Piedmont finished the regular season going 9-8, including a 4-3 mark in the month of April.
