DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont University women's lacrosse team will face off against No. 2 Southern Virginia in the semifinals of the USA South tournament. The Lady Lions dominated Pfeiffer in their opening round matchup.

LAST TIME OUT:

Piedmont 18, Pfeiffer 9 (5/2/23 in Demorest, Ga.)

Piedmont repeated its regular season success over Pfeiffer, once again holding the Falcon's to single digit goals while running away with the score line.

The domination started early as the Lady Lions went on a massive six goal run to turn a one-goal lead into a seven-goal lead as LOVETTE CHOLOH scored just minutes into the second period.

Defense continued to be the strong point of Piedmont in the 2nd, allowing just one goal the entire period while ALY REECE, LINDLEY WARD, MERRYN BUMPASS and Choloh all added goals to take a 13-3 lead into half time.

From there, Piedmont cruised to the win in the second half and earned their rematch with SVU in the semifinals.

REGULAR SEASON V. SOUTHERN VIRGINIA

Piedmont 15, Southern Virginia 21 (3/25/23 in Demorest, Ga.)

Piedmont dropped their regular season shootout against Southern Virginia at home midway through the regular season.

In a highly anticipated matchup, the Piedmont offense was unable to keep up with the high powered SVU team. Following a massive 2nd period from the Knights, Piedmont trailed by six headed into half time. The Lady Lions fought hard to get back into the contest but were held at arm's length.

Southern Virginia's Alissa Johnson led all scorers in the game with seven goals as Piedmont had no solution for her on the defensive end. On the offensive end, CLARA WELCH led the Lady Lions in scoring with four goals while AVA TRANKINA and MERRYN BUMPASS added hat tricks in the contest.

The Lady Lions have earned a second chance against SVU and will be looking capitalize on what they learned during the regular season to flip the results on the Knights.
