DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont University women's lacrosse team will face off against Pfeiffer University in the opening round of the USA South tournament. The Lady Lions earned the No. 3 seed following regular season play where they dropped just two conference contests.

Piedmont went 7-2 in conference play, only dropping games to No. 1 Meredith and No. 2 Southern Virginia while picking up huge wins over Methodist and Brevard to secure the No. 3 seed.

LAST TIME OUT:

Piedmont 8, Meredith 22 (4/29/23 in Raleigh, N.C.)

Piedmont dropped their final regular season contest to the USA South No. 1 seed Meredith. The Avenging Angels used two large runs in the 1st and 2nd periods to bury the Lady Lions early and never look back.

MERRYN BUMPASS did her best to distribute the ball, assisting on a pair of goals in the first half but Piedmont headed to the break trailing by 10.

In the third, the Meredith defense continued to frustrate the Piedmont offense, holding them scoreless until the final minutes when MAGGI SPRATLIN found the back of the net.

The contest closed in favor of Meredith 22-8.

Recap

REGULAR SEASON V. PFEIFFER

Piedmont 23, Pfeiffer 8 (4/15/23 in Misenheimer, N.C.)

Piedmont breezed through Pfeiffer last time out, winning the game with a 15 goal margin of victory. The offense put up a season high in goals during a single contest on the year while the defense smothered the Falcons offense.

The Lady Lions opened with four straight goals before Pfeiffer could score. Carrying a 6-3 lead into the 2nd, CLARA WELCH and MAGGI SPRATLIN continued to push the lead. The Falcon fought hard to stay in the contest but LINDLEY WARD and MERRYN BUMPASS gave their squad the edge heading into the half time break.

With a three goal advantage out of the half, the Lady Lions defense threw up a brick wall, holding Pfeiffer scoreless for the remainder of the contest.

Piedmont would go on to add 12 unanswered goals in the second half and conclude the contest with dominant 23-8 win.
