RALEIGH, N.C. - The Piedmont University women's lacrosse team dropped their final USA South regular season contest to Meredith 22-8 early Saturday afternoon. 

Piedmont struck first in the contest as MERRYN BUMPASS found AVA TRANKINA for the opening goal just minutes in. However, the Avenging Angels rallied for six straight goals and closed out the first period of action leading 6-1. 

The run ended early in the second as Bumpass found MACHAELA SMITH while the Lady Lions had a man advantage. Meredith remained unfazed as they once again went on a massive offensive run, this time scoring five before Piedmont could answer. 

LINDLEY WARD scored unassisted but the Avenging Angels scored just seconds before the half came to a close and took a 10-goal lead into the break.

Meredith continued to build on their large lead in the third while holding the Lady Lions scoreless for the entire period until MAGGI SPRATLIN found her first goal of the contest.

Piedmont battled hard until the end but the contest closed 22-8 in favor of the Avenging Angels.

TURNING POINT:
-- Meredith went on a five goal run directly after going on a seven goal run to start their offensive day.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
-- CLARA WELCH scored two goals while adding five draw controls.
-- MERRYN BUMPASS recorded two assists in the contest.
