Toccoa Falls, GA - The Piedmont College volleyball team kept alive their winning streak with a fifth straight victory coming 3-0 over local rival Toccoa Falls College, a NCCAA member institution less than 30 minutes away from the Demorest campus. The Lady Lions won all three sets by at least seven points taking the last two by a combined 50 to 23 score to put their overall record now at 7-1, the best by any South Division member of the USA South Athletic Conference and second only in the entire league to William Peace's 8-1 mark.
Piedmont took set one by a 25-18 score before claiming 25-10 and 25-13 victories in the next two sets respectively. Having the big night for the Lady Lions at the net was senior and hitting veteran Danielle Maffett who collected 10 kills on 18 total attempts with just two errors for a .444 hitting percentage. Her offensive numbers led all hitters on the night with more than three attempts to their name.
Junior Kaitlin Norman was next on the list with eight kills on 21 attempts while Norman's classmate Jenna Hoffman and youngster Mallory Leary each added five kills to the cause. In the assists department, it was freshman Heather LaPrade picking up her first leading night in that category for her Lady Lion career with 14 to her name while Xandy Green accumulated nine assists as well.
Defensively, Katie Faith led the charge with her dozen digs on the evening with a battery of Lady Lions chipping on the back end of the court. Senior Jessica Hollis added nine digs of her own while the two setters on the night, Green and LaPrade, combined for 13 more. Norman and junior Jennifer Opper each tallied a pair of block assists to lead the way in that column.
Piedmont tallied double-digit kills in each of its three sets against the Eagles in Lewis Delaney Gym but never allowed Toccoa Falls to crest the same mark. The Lady Lions will have just a few days off before preparing for a busy weekend as they head to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the home of Salem College, where PC is set to take on Greensboro College and the hosting Spirits in a tri-match on the campus of the Great South Athletic Conference member school.
