SEASON RECAP: Women's Swimming 2024-25

• The Lions took second place at the ISSC Conference Meet, narrowly behind Southern Virginia.
• As a team, the Lions delivered a 6-2 record over the fall and spring seasons.
• 10 Lions earned All-Conference honors for their performance at the conference meet.
• Four Lions (Olivia Bechtel, Kelly Mashburn, Caroline Massaro, Madison Nance) earned CSC Academic All-District honors.
• Bechtel and Nance earned honors for the third time in their careers.

• Senior Madison Nance broke the school record in the 100 yard IM, swimming a 1:06.31. In addition to the record, she also picked up wins in the 50 yard breaststroke with a 33.78 and 500 yard freestyle with a 5:46.38.
• Caroline Massaro followed with a 12:42.75. in the 1000 yard freestyle, taking first place. She also claimed the 100 yard backstroke (1:07.45) later on in the meet.
• Kelly Mashburn continued her success from the previous season, winning the 200 yard freestyle (2:04.69), the 50 yard freestyle (26.30) and 100 yard freestyle (57.62).
• In a tight race, Olivia Smith bested Massaro by just under one second in the 50 yard backstroke, winning with a 30.19. Smith also won the 50 yard butterfly (27.98), narrowly holding off fellow Lion Tressie Polk (30.20).

• The Lions were able to take home victories in all 14 events on the day, bookending the afternoon with a pair of relay victories.
• Prior to the meet, seniors Olivia Bechtel, Brynne Gillilan and Madison Nance were honored for their contributions to the program.
• Overall, eight different Lions were either solo winners or part of a relay victory over the 14 events, with six of those eight delivering multiple victories.
• The group was headlined by the senior Nance, who won three times solo and was part of the 200 free relay team that ended the festivities. In her final home meet, Nance also banked solo wins in the 50 and 100 breast and the 100 IM, where she finished just a second behind her own Piedmont school record.
• Nance was matched by Kelly Mashburn, who also won four times (three solo, one relay). Mashburn's three solo wins all came in the freestyle of varying lengths (50, 500, 1000).

• Piedmont started off the competition with a new school record, as Donevin Lakey, Madison Nance, Olivia Smith and Kelly Mashburn set a new mark in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:54.66 and a second place finish.
• The women's lone win in the four events Thursday came in the 800 free relay with the team of Nance, Maggie Robinson, Sydney Addison and Mashburn recording a time of 8:25.17, setting a new school record in the event by six seconds.
• Piedmont's Olivia Smith began Friday's finals by breaking her own school record in the 100 fly, with a time of 1:00.26, good for second place overall in the event. 
• Piedmont's first win of the evening came from Donevin Lakey, who delivered a 1:03.16 in the 100 back, just ahead of Massaro, who finished second with a 1:03.89. 
• Caroline Massaro opened the evening with a victory in the 200 back with a time of 2:19.28. Then, in the final solo event of the event, Olivia Smith left the field in the dust on her way to a win in the 200 fly and a new school record of 2:33.51.
