Piedmont 183, Columbia 53

TALLULAH FALLS, Ga. - The Piedmont University women's swimming team blew past Columbia College in the season-opening home meet by a score of 183-53. Senior Madison Nance broke the school record in the 100 yard IM, swimming a 1:06.31. In addition to the record, she also picked up wins in the 50 yard breaststroke with a 33.78 and 500 yard freestyle with a 5:46.38.

The Lions opened the meet with the 200 yard medley relay, where the team of Olivia Smith, Donevin Lakey, Kelly Mashburn and Nance turned in a 1:57.59 for first place.

Caroline Massaro followed with a 12:42.75. in the 1000 yard freestyle, taking first place. She also claimed the 100 yard backstroke (1:07.45) later on in the meet.

Kelly Mashburn continued her success from the previous season, winning the 200 yard freestyle (2:04.69), the 50 yard freestyle (26.30) and 100 yard freestyle (57.62).

In a tight race, Olivia Smith bested Massaro by just under one second in the 50 yard backstroke, winning with a 30.19. Smith also won the 50 yard butterfly (27.98), narrowly holding off fellow Lion Tressie Polk (30.20).

In one of the closer races of the day, Sydney Trafton won the 100 breaststroke by just over two second (1:20.17) while newcomer Lakey Donevin won the 100 yard butterfly (1:05.80).

Closing out the meet, the team of Sydney Addison, Polk, Massaro and Smith combined for a 1:52.36 in the 200 yard freestyle to end the day with a win.
