Piedmont Finish: 9th of 10
COLUMBUS, Ga. - Piedmont women's swimming concluded its fall season, competing in the three-day Small College Championship Cup in Columbus, Georgia.
With the three day event wrapping up Saturday, the Lions took home a ninth-place finish out of 10 teams but were the top finishing NCAA DIII team in the event.
The Lions began the event in strong fashion, with a group earning a ninth-place finish in the 200 medley relay.
Junior standout
Kelly Mashburn continued to shine in her Piedmont career, breaking the school record in the 1650 free with a time of 19:20.90. Mashburn was the only DIII swimmer competing in the race and finished 7th out of 12 competitors.
A number of other Lions delivered top 15 finishes during the event.
Senior
Caroline Massaro placed 15th in the 200 back with a time of 2:26.71 while taking home 16th in the 100 back with a time of 1:06.07, narrowly missing breaking her own school records in both events.
Sydney Trafton contributed a 15th-place finish in the 400 IM as the top finishing DIII athlete.
Donevin Lakey took home a 13th place finish out of 24 athletes in the 100 back, with a time of 1:02.98, missing out on Massaro's school record by just over a second.
In the relays, the Lions took home a number of top-10 finishes. After their ninth place mark in the 200 medley relay to open the event, the group of Massaro,
Maggie O'Brien, Lakey and Mashburn also finished ninth in the 400 medley relay.
The 800 free relay saw the group of Mashburn,
Emily Hillesheim,
Sydney Addison and
Maggie Robinson also took ninth with a time of 8:38.97.
Up next, the Lions will have a long break before beginning their spring season, starting with a home dual against Warren Wilson on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m.
