CHARLOTTE, N.C. - For the second straight season, Piedmont women's swimming took home a second-place finish at the Independent South Conference Meet, which concluded Saturday night in Charlotte, North Carolina.
However, the Lions saw multiple school records fall as
Kelly Mashburn and
Kayle Buss delivered standout performances and set new marks for the program.
Piedmont started out the meet strong on Thursday, with Mashburn cashing in a win in the 500 free and breaking her own school record in the process with a time of 5:24.89. However, the junior was not finished breaking her own school records, as she finished the 1650 free in 19:09.76. Mashburn also won the women's mile with a final time of 19:09.96.
While the Lions trailed Southern Virginia most of the way, a number of athletes still delivered impressive performances.
Overall, Piedmont had eight different athletes finish in the top three of a solo event. Mashburn led the way with three top-three finishes while freshmen
Zoi Walker,
Kayle Buss and
Emily Hillesheim delivered three apiece.
Sydney Addison took third in the 100 free while senior
Sydney Trafton touched the wall third in the 400 IM. Fellow senior
Caroline Massaro delivered a third-place finish in the 200 back.
After Mashburn, it was the freshman Buss who also shined at the meet, putting an exclamation mark on her freshman campaign. Buss took second in the 200 breast, setting a new school record with a time of 2:41.03.
Piedmont finished second in all four relay events.
