  • Piedmont women's tennis opened its 2024-25 dual match slate with a pair of victories at home on Friday morning and evening against Pfeiffer and LaGrange.
  • The Lions outlasted the Falcons in a hard-fought 6-1 victory in the morning before dispatching the Panthers in 7-0 fashion to close the evening.
  • The win against the Falcons gave Piedmont Head Coach Trey Martin 115 for his career, making him the all-time winningest head coach in Piedmont women's tennis history.

  • Prior to the match, the Lions honored seniors Lizzie Ivey, Bri Laidman, Lauryn Leslie, Alyssa McSpadden, Hollan Rabensdorf and Dannie Evans for their contributions to the program.
  • Piedmont was able to roll through doubles and then won five of the six singles lines in straight sets to move to 3-0 in conference play and 13-1 overall.
  • The senior McSpadden improved to 2-0 on the season with freshman Sarah Sanabia as the duo rolled to a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
  • Then, it was a race between the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams to see who would clinch the doubles point. That race was won by the No. 1 team of Sarah Row and Jordan Ballard, as they prevailed 6-2 just before the seniors Laidman and Evans closed out their match at No. 2, 6-3.
  • With the men's match against Maryville taking place simultaneously, just No. 1 through No. 3 singles took the courts first. Laidman was the first to clinch, winning 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2.
  • McSpadden's turn was next, as she cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 to put the Lions a win away from clinching the match.
  • Fresh off winning CCS Rookie of the Week, Caroline Morrison stumbled in the first set, but regained her footing quickly and was dominant in the second and third sets to clinch the match with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 3.

  • With the win, the Lions have now won 47 regular season conference matches in a row, between the CCS and the USA South.
  • The streak looked like it may be in jeopardy after a split at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles with the team of Bri Laidman and Dannie Evans prevailing 6-2 at No. 2 before the Eagles answered with a win at No. 1.
  • That set the stage for senior Alyssa McSpadden and freshman Sarah Sanabia at No. 3 doubles, but the duo was up to the task, outlasting their opponents in a grueling 7-5 win to give Piedmont the all important doubles point.
  • Asbury was able to regain traction, with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. However, freshman Caroline Morrison stepped up at No. 3 to win 7-5, 6-3 and even the score at 2-2.
  • Then, it was up to the No. 4 through No. 6 matches, with each side needing to take 2-of-3 to clinch the win. Lauryn Leslie cruised through her match at No. 4, winning 6-0, 6-2 to put Piedmont one win away.
  • With Jordan Ballard battling in a second set after dropping the first, it was up to the fifth-year senior Evans to close the door on the Eagles, and she delivered, winning 6-2, 6-1 in clinical fashion to push the Lions over the top.
