STORYLINES
-This is a rematch from the final game of the regular season when Greensboro scored a pair in the final 14 seconds to win 14-12
-Greensboro enters having won its last seven in a row
-The Pride lost in the semi-finals last season to Meredith
THE COACHES
In her fourth season leading the Lady Lions, Head Coach Emily Jacquette is establishing one of the most dominating programs in the South as Piedmont entered 2016 at 40-9 under their current leader. Piedmont finished the season 9-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play with those two losses coming to the two higher seeds in the tournament. Jacquette has her team focused only on the task at hand as Piedmont looks for a third straight USA South semifinal win facing Greensboro on Friday.
Christie Hebert was named as the Pride Women's Lacrosse head coach in April 2015 after serving as the interim coach for the 2015 season. During the 2015 season, Hebert led the Pride to a 9-5 overall record while going 4-2 in USA South Athletic Conference play. Greensboro also placed three individuals on the USA South Women's Lacrosse All-Conference teams including Greensboro's first ever Conference Player of the Year.
SCOUTING GREENSBORO
Greensboro comes into the Semifinal Friday showdown with Piedmont having earned a 12-3 overall record including a 5-1 mark in USA South play. The Pride is led by none other than 2015 USA South Conference Player of the Year Kirstin Norris who leads the country in total points and is 2nd in total goals with 74 scores. Norris was a struggle to contain for PC the last time these two met as she scored six on the day.
COMPLETING THE JOURNEY
After back-to-back undefeated regular seasons in USA South play, the Lady Lions finished 4-2 in league action this year but are focused on the end result in the postseason after coming up just short of a tournament championship the last two seasons. Piedmont is led by its first four-year senior class who has helped PC to a 49-15 overall record.
MAGGIE MAGIC
Senior
MAGGIE MCDANIEL became the first and so far only four-time All-Conference honoree in program history earlier this week with her 2nd team selection. McDaniel has helped lead the Lady Lions to four straight appearances in the USA South semifinals with the Green and Gold making it to the Championship Game in each of the last two seasons.
LAST TIME OUT: V. GREENSBORO (L-14-12)
In the final contest of the regular season, the Piedmont College Lady Lion lacrosse team dropped a close call to the Pride of Greensboro College 14-12. After tying the game with 1:35 to go on a
KAYLA JONES goal, the Pride managed to net a goal with 14 seconds remaining then found the back of the net with one second remaining to win by two.
The Lady Lions trailed by two early in the contest but roared back to outscore the Pride 7-1 inside of three minutes to go in the first half. Greensboro managed to notch a pair before the half to cut Piedmont's four goal lead in half as the Lady Lions led it 7-5 at the break.
In the second half, it was scoreless for the first five minutes but for the final 20 minutes of play, it was no more than a one goal lead for either team until the final second when the Pride sealed the victory.
Saturday marked senior day for the women's lacrosse program as the first four-year senior class was honored prior to the contest with six seniors being recognized for their careers in the Green and Gold.
