Box Score Demorest, GA — The Piedmont Women's Lacrosse team improved their win streak with a hardy 16-4 victory over USA South Conference opponent Methodist University. Sophomore
Maggie McDaniel took to the offensive early with four goals before halftime while giving out a pair of assists in the game.
The Lady Lions had to start from behind today as Methodist scored the first goal. It would turn out to be Methodist's only lead of the day as
Mckynsey Douglas was ready to score her first of the day right after to even the score.
Carly Haraka put in her work with two great back-to-back saves just minutes later to give the Lady Lions momentum. Piedmont took the lead five minutes into play when McDaniel scored her first thanks to a
Cahner Manns assist.
At 17:45 left in the half,
Alexis Narducci scored a smart goal on a Douglas assist; her first and only goal of the game. Less than a minute later,
Kayla Jones found her first of three goals and
Jenine Brideau quickly added a sixth Piedmont goal right after that. Brideau made sure to get an assist as well, helping the first of
Maggie McDaniel's next pair of goals; the second would be a free position.
In the final ten minutes of the first half, Brideau nailed her last goal of the match,
Megan McDowell earned her first goal, and McDaniel pushed the lead to 11-1 with her fourth goal of the half.
In the second half, the Lady Lions once again came out less than stellar, allowing a Methodist free position goal on a Piedmont man-down situation five minutes into play. Freshman
Julianna Surgent beat a player around the crease for the answering goal.
Freshman goalkeeper
Blake Forrest led Piedmont's defensive effort in the second and stepped up for a big free position shot and save shortly into the half. The Monarchs weren't giving up though, scoring their third goal under seventeen minutes left in the half.
Piedmont's attackers put three goals in on the visitors in the next few minutes with McDowell, Douglas, and Jones each finding the net. Methodist scored one last goal under two minutes remaining but it wasn't enough for the visitors. The Lady Lions celebrated their victory early when
Kayla Jones scored the final goal of the match with eight seconds left on the clock.
The 16-4 victory gives the Lady Lions a 6-1 record and extends the win streak to six. In USA South play, Piedmont is now 4-0. Their next match will be a 12:00 PM start hosting non-conference opponent Aurora University tomorrow, March 6th.
