Lady Lions Triumphant After 18-11 Win Over Berry

After a close first half, the Lady Lions pulled away in the second half for an 18-11 victory over Berry. Maggie McDaniel made the extra effort offensively with six assists and a pair of goals.
Box Score Demorest, GA — Piedmont Lady Lion Lacrosse came out victorious 18-11 in tonight's game against Berry College. The Lady Lions held off a strong Viking offensive in the first with an 8-7 lead and walked away with a 10-4 second half showing. Piedmont posted 17 shots per half in the win besting just 23 overall by the visitors.

In a game that saw seven different Piedmont players score, it was Alexis Narducci who led the way with goal number one three minutes into play. Maggie McDaniel had the assist on the play, one of six she would hand out in the win. Berry answered with a goal two minutes later but the tie wouldn't stick. McDaniel picked up the draw control and breaking off defenders left and right while sprinting down the field, she found a hole and struck scoring her first goal of the match. McDaniel wasn't ready for a break picking up a ground ball on the next draw control after a Berry turnover and swept it across the goal to Narducci ready and waiting who swiftly scored her second goal for the 3-1 lead.

Berry bounced back with several defensive saves and a trio of goals to contend with Piedmont's score. With 17:33 left in the half, freshman Jenine Brideau tallied a great free position goal to tie up the game once more. The Lady Lions then took the lead minutes later with a trio of goals by Megan McDowell, Alexis Narducci, and Maggie McDaniel.

As the clock wound under ten minutes and further, Berry answered with three goals to tie it at 7-7. When it looked like the stalemate would stick going into halftime, sophomore Cahner Manns made the extra effort in the midfield snatching a ground ball and after beating several defenders she launched a shot clean past the Berry keeper earning the 8-7 lead just before halftime.

While Berry was down during the intermission, they quickly tied up the game early in the second half. The tie was broken early though by goals by Mckynsey Douglas and Cahner Manns; both assisted by Maggie McDaniel. Berry put in another goal at 22:42 but once again, Piedmont was willing to put in more work adding two goals by Myckensey Douglas and Alexis Narducci for the 12-9 lead.

Under twenty minutes left in the match, Berry added a man-up goal. Minutes later Douglas added her third and final goal of the match; she also assisted a pair of scores this evening. In the final ten minutes of play, Piedmont made it more difficult for a Berry comeback to form with a pair of goals surrounding the Vikings final goal. Kayla Jones finally found her shot late in the half scoring a pair of goals on a free position attempt and a crease roll. The final goal came by way of Megan McDowell on Douglas' final asssist. Sophomore Carly Haraka stuck it out in goal for the Lady Lions gathering seven saves to add to her tally.

The Lady Lions move to 12-2 overall after finding victory in their last home game of the regular season. Piedmont now readies for a quick trip down to Huntingdon on Saturday, March 29th for their final regular season match and last USA South conference match as well. Game time on Saturday is set for 1:00 PM EST.
