Heavy-Hitting First Half Key to Women's Lacrosse 15-10 Victory Over USA South Opponent Greensboro

Kayla Jones led the way with 4 goals and 2 assists in the Lady Lions 15-10 victory over USA South opponent Greensboro College.
Box Score Demorest, GA — Piedmont Women's lacrosse wound up the weekend with a strong 15-10 victory over USA South conference opponent Greensboro College. Piedmont dominated early with an 11-3 lead going into the first half before fighting off the Pride in the final half.

Unlike the past few games, the opponent was the first to score in today's lacrosse match. It wasn't long after the Greensboro goal though that the Lady Lions answered with a pair of goals by Kayla Jones and Jenine Brideau over five minutes into regulation.

The Pride evened out the score 2-2 shortly after, but then Piedmont found their stride with four goals in the next twenty minutes. Mckynsey Douglas, Megan McDowell, and Maggie McDaniel each notched their first of the match while Brideau reached an open hole and fired in her second for the 6-2 lead.

Greensboro scored one more before half but at ten minutes remaining the floodgates opened and Piedmont scored five more goals. Kayla Jones led the way with a trio of goals followed by a smart technical score from Alexis Narducci. With time running out, Douglas made a brilliant move and fired a shot before the buzzer rang to take an 11-3 lead into halftime.

McDaniel led the way into the second half with a nice goal assisted by Douglas but the Pride quickly retaliated with a five scores before over a ten minute period only allowing a single Narducci goal within the rally.

Cahner Manns, who had a great day with six draw controls, scored a man-up goal at 11:47 for a 14-8 lead. Time elapsed slowly in the last ten minutes of play with both defenses playing aggressively. Ashtin Thomas caused a pair of great turnovers to keep the Pride on their feet.

Under three minutes to go, Samanth Vanover picked up a ground ball and deftly tossed it to Douglas who launched it past the Greensboro keeper for the 15th and final Piedmont goal. While the Pride earned two more scores before the final buzzer, it wasn't enough as they fell to Piedmont 15-10.

Carly Haraka had a great day in goal for the Lady Lions making five saves in each half. Kayla Jones led scoring with her 4 goals while adding two assists. In the back, Elaine Rossignol picked up five ground balls to help Piedmont clear 12-15.

The victory moves the Lady Lions to 5-1 overall and they hold an undefeated 3-0 record in conference. Piedmont will host two games in the middle of the week while on spring break with conference opponent Methodist University visiting March 5th and non-conference opponent Aurora University stopping by on March 6th. Both matches are scheduled for 12:00 PM starts. Live stats will be available while a video broadcast will also be shown.
