Lady Lions Trump Visiting Panthers 23-1 in USA South Match

#7 Alexis Narducci (left) was one of a trio of Lady Lions that scored five goals in the commanding 23-1 victory over LaGrange this evening.
Box Score Demorest, GA — In another commanding appearance by the Piedmont Women's Lacrosse team, the home standing Lady Lions defeated the LaGrange Panthers 23-1 at home. Kayla Jones, Alexis Narducci, and Megan McDowell each added five goals to Piedmont's scoresheet alongside six other scoring Lady Lions.

The first five minutes was a show of offensive talent by Jones and Maggie McDanielwith the duo each scoring a pair one after the other and assisting each other on the middle two goals. McDowell then got in on the action but Jones was right behind her again with a goal and the Lady Lions held a 6-0 lead very early in the match.

Carly Haraka made a great free position save at 24:07 left in the half and Cahner Manns followed up with her only goal of the game. Narducci had the assist on Manns' goal and then set out to score as well, notching three goals in quick succession before the nineteen minute mark. With a 10-0 lead, freshman Blake Forrestt made her appearance in goal as Haraka came out with the win.

McDowell and Jones both then scored and the Piedmont defense pushed back against a set of Panthers attacks. Julianna Surgent and Jenine Brideau both caused turnovers keeping up appearances in the Piedmont defense; the Lady Lions have given up just 35 goals per half in eleven games this season thanks to strong defensive efforts.

Under six minutes remaining, McDowell picked up a pair of goals split by a Narducci goal and followed by a swift Kayla Jones score. McDowell's first goal was a crowd-pleaser as she deftly scooped a saved shot and flicked it past the LaGrange keeper in one motion. The Lady Lions held a 16-0 lead going into the halftime break, outshooting LaGrange 25-1 and sweeping up 15 loose groundballs to just 2 by the visitors.

In the second half of play, Piedmont continued their game-plan of moving the ball around and picking just the right opportunities to score. Mckynsey Douglas was the first with two goals added to her record. Megan McDowell and Alexis Narducci then both followed up with solid tally marks on the scoresheet.

At 10:40 remaining the home bench was whooping and hollering after a great free position save by Forrest in the Piedmont defense. The Lady Lions then turned around and freshman Morgan McCalla scored on the opposite end of the field. Jenine Brideau got her sole score of the evening at 5:27 remaining but LaGrange found their opening moments later and scored their sole goal of the match to break the clean sheet held by Piedmont's goalkeepers.

Freshman Julianna Surgent scored the final goal of the match with just over a minute left to play. The game ended with Piedmont ahead by a longshot, 23-1. The Lady Lions improve their win streak to ten games at 11-1 and are now 7-0 in the USA South Conference. Piedmont takes a break from the USA South for a fortnight, traveling to Kentucky this weekend. Transylvania and Centre are the two opponents the Lady Lions will take on this Saturday and Sunday. The games are scheduled for 1:00 pm and 12:00 pm respectively.
