Lady Lions Defeat Meredith 16-7 to Advance to Semi-Finals in USA South Conference Tournament

Alexis Narducci led the Lady Lions to victory in today's USA South Conference Tournament Quarterfinal with 6 goals in the 16-7 win.
Box Score Demorest, GA - On a sunny morning at Walker Field, the Piedmont Women's Lacrosse team defeated the Avenging Angels of Meredith College 16-7 in a USA South Conference Tournament quarterfinal round. Piedmont outshot Meredith 33-22 in today's game.

Alexis Narducci led off the Lions scoring two minutes into the first period with an eight-meter shot sneaking past the Meredith goalkeeper. The Avenging Angels did not leave the score unanswered with a goal of their own minutes later. Piedmont's Maggie McDaniel scored her first of two goals a minute later off of a Meredith turnover caused by Narducci.

The next minute saw goals by Kayla Freund as well as a second Meredith goal. Restarting play, Samantha Vanover  won her second draw control and quickly passed it to Jennifer Opper. Megan McDowell put a pass from Opper in the back of the cage for the Lion's fourth goal.

After a free position goal for Cahner Manns, Narducci found the net again for her second of six goals on the day followed by another goal by Freund less than a minute later. The last ten minutes of the half a number of possession changes along with an eight-meter goal by the Avenging Angels and two more Lady Lions goals.

The score was 9-3 going into the second half. Alexis Narducci once again led off the scoring with a goal assisted by Samantha Vanover. The Lady Lions had four more goals in a row by Asthton Nash, Narducci, Victoria Petrassi and Vanover to increase the deficit to 14-3.

Meredith would not give up though, scoring two in a row with nine minutes left and a counter attack to get goal six with a minute remaining. Alexis Narducci scored her sixth and final goal of the match with :50 seconds remaining followed by another goal by Freund seconds later after a Piedmont draw control. Meredith put the final goal in with a second remaining but it wasn't enough as Lady Lions came out victorious. CARLY HARAKA kept the Meredith offense in check with eight saves in in the win.

The Lady Lions move to 12-3 overall after the USA South Conference Tournament quarterfinal victory. They will travel to Rocky Mount, North Carolina next weekend for the tournament semi-finals.
