Greensboro, NC --
The Piedmont College volleyball team was defeated in their first two matches of competition at the Greensboro Invitiational today against Randolph-Macon College and the host Pride of Greensboro College.  After dropping a 3-0 match against Randolph-Macon, the Lady Lions fell in a hard-fought four-setter to Greensboro College 3-1 to round out the day.

Against Randolph-Macon, PC tried to spread the offensive load around with seven different Lady Lions recording a kill.  The squad held tight in the first set falling 25-18 before eventually succumbing to the Yellow Jackets over the next two sets 25-16 and 25-17 in a 3-0 loss.

Leading the way against Randolph-Macon was sophomore middle blocker Hallye Jerkins who posted six total kills with right side hitter Heather Stafford's five following close behind.  Freshman setter Katheryn Knarr helped guide the PC offense tallying 12 assists while also record four digs on the defensive end.

In the match against the host Greensboro College, it was the senior outside hitter Kalin DeMarrais who would look to will the squad to victory with her 17 kills and 15 digs, both of which were match-highs for the Lady Lions.  While junior outside hitter Erin Krause would add 12 more kills of her own, the effort would fall just short as the Pride defeated PC in four sets 22-25, 25-19, 25-20, and 25-22.

After recently setting the PC record for digs in a career, senior defensive specialist Jennifer Granlund was back to her defensive ways posting 23 digs in the two matches to lead the squad.  DeMarrais followed close behind her classmate with her 22 digs over two matches while sophomore Paige Eslinger also turned in 22 for the day.

Piedmont, now 3-4 overall, will look to rebound quickly as the squad continues play in the Greensboro Invitational on Saturday, September 11 with a 10:00 morning match against Guilford College.  PC will then finish tournament play with a 2:00 match against Peace College on Saturday afternoon.
