Danville, KY -- The Piedmont College volleyball team posted a Saturday split on the road earlier this afternoon at the Halloween Bash Tournament hosted by Centre College. After falling to the host Colonels 3-0 to start the day, the Lady Lions found their hitting power to push past Sewanee-University of the South 3-0.
Piedmont kicked off tournament action this morning by taking on Centre College after having battled the Colonels in a five set classic earlier this season in the Cave. However, this match would not be similar to that October 9 match as Centre took control of the match early and often 25-22, 25-12, and 25-19 for the 3-0 victory.
Junior
Rachel Powell had a solid hitting performance putting down ten kills while hitting a .320 percentage in the loss.
Kalin DeMarrais also had a good day at the net chalking up ten kills while grabbing 15 digs on the defensive end for another double-double performance.
Sophomore libero
Paige Eslinger continued to be a defensive stallworth earning 29 digs while the freshman setter
Katheryn Knarr dished out 22 assists.
In their second match of the day, the PC volleyball squad steadied the ship taking care of Sewanee-University of the South 3-0 for the second time this 2010 season. After taking a straight sets decision from the Tigers just eleven days ago, the Lady Lions worked the familiar opponent 25-17 in all three sets to grab their 17th win of the year.
Powell once again led all hitters with her nine kills against the Tigers as she posted a .411 hitting percentage wrapping a standout weekend. Junior
Erin Krause added eight kills to the Lady Lions victory as she continued to shine for the squad.
Knarr's set assists totaled 16 for the match while classmate
Ashton Nash chipped in eight helpers to the cause. Eslinger came up big on the defensive end with 17 digs at the libero spot for Piedmont.
The split moves PC to 17-13 as the Lady Lions wrap up regular season play. The team finishes 9-9 away from home on the season and will return to action on Friday, November 5th when they travel to Decatur, GA to begin the Great South Athletic Conference championship tournament.
