The Piedmont cycling team concluded its collegiate road season with the Sunny King SECCC Conference Championship.
The race took place in Anniston, Ala., and was held alongside the first race of the USA Crits series. Piedmont raced with a full road squad on the men's and women's sides.
With high stakes put up, the teams delivered.
On Saturday, the team raced Sunny King. On the men's team, Owen Lloyd won the men's 1/2/3 collegiate conference championship race, making him the criterium conference champ.
Shannon Himstedt was close behind, getting 3rd while Pearson Bruhns rounded out the top 10, finishing 10th in the men's 1/2/3 crit.
The men's team not only raced the collegiate race but also competed in the category races. Pearson Bruhns got 7th in the men's 2/3 crit.
On the women's team, Emma Frost got 7th in the collegiate women's 1/2/3.
Despite not racing for Piedmont in the crit, Preston Eye got 3rd in the Pro race, racing for Cliff Family Racing.
On Sunday, the team competed in the road race.
On the women's team, Emma Frost got 2nd in the women's 1-3. Morgan Stephens finished 6th in the collegiate 1-3 race. Grace Wilson earned 9th in the collegiate 1-3.
On the men's side, Pearson Bruhns placed 3rd in the collegiate 1-3, while Kaden Zimish got 9th in the collegiate 1-3.
Overall, the team had a strong weekend and heads into the collegiate road nationals with confidence. Nationals are set to take place in Wisconsin during the month of May. Before nationals, the team prepares with more USA Crit races this April, starting with the Athens Twilight.
