Preston Eye Win's Men's Ominum as Cycling Competes in the Collegiate Road Nationals

Need To Know: Preston Eye, Men's Omnium National Champion

MADISON, Wis. - On Friday the cycling team competed in the collegiate road nationals over the weekend.

Friday racing started with the team time trial. The men's team consisting of Preston Eye, Shannon Himstedt, Pearson Bruhns and Owen Lloyd battled hard for a 7th-place finish.

The women's team consisting of Emma Frost, Katie Prowell, Grace Wilson and Morgan Stephens earned a 6th-place finish in the event.

On Saturday, the teams competed in the road race event. The course spanned 14 miles altogether. The women were off first, needing to complete four laps. The day had strong winds that got higher as the day went on. Each lap, the field broke apart more and more in the feed zone, which served as the major climb on the course. At the end of the women's race, there was a break with five riders up the road. Frost won the field sprint for 6th place in the race.

The men's race went similarly to the women's, with higher winds sweeping the course. The final sprint was strung out with Eye in 4th, Lloyd in 16th and Bruhns in 20th.

Sunday was the criterium. The women one again started the day for the Lions. The course was a four-corner flat course with long front and back straights. The race ended in a field sprint with Frost finishing 8th.

The men's team saw great teamwork on display during their race. Himstedt and Bruhns stayed in front of the field to aid the Lions sprinters later in the race. In the end, the race resulted in a field sprint where Lloyd led our Eye for the win. Lloyd hung on for a 4th place finish.

Due to his podium finishes in both the road race and the criterium Eye won the men's omnium.
