Winston-Salem, NC - The Piedmont University cycling teams sent four riders up to participate at the Gears and Guitars Event in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to continue spring competition.
The event represented the final races of the USA crits series with Friday being a new course. With the start/finish line at the top of the course, the race would make for fast, sweeping downhill corners and some short uphill punches. Experienced racer
Emma Frost raced well in the pro women's race, sitting in the field and following wheels, resulting in an 8th place finish.Â
Saturday night was the finale of the event. The course is a classic in the Southeast region, a six-corner figure eight course with the course going over and under itself.Â
Morgan Stephens was the first to go off on the day placing first in the women's 3/4/5 coming in solo after a well-timed attack on the final lap.
In the pro men's race,
Shannon Himstedt raced well, conserving energy, and launching some strong attacks. However, the field wouldn't let it stick. Himstedt ended up in the field sprint finishing 11th in the race.
Frost also finished off the USA Crits Series sitting 9th overall.Â
