Clarkesville, GA - While most were beginning their summer vacation, the Piedmont University cycling teams were busy competing in the local area at the Tour of North Georgia or TONGA racing events.
The annual Tour of North Georgia was this past weekend right in Piedmont's backyard with the event consisting of two road races, a time trial, and a criterium.
Friday kicked off the weekend in Commerce with a road race. This race was the flatter and shorter of the two road race courses with
Emma Frost being the first off.
Frost found herself in a break of 4 and sprinting to 3
rd place. The guys were off next as
Tyler Rogers raced well ending up in a small break and sprinting to 1
st in the men's 3/4s. For
Kaden Zimish, the men's 1/2/3s race stuck together more and we was able to sprint to a 4
th place finish.
Saturday morning, the second road race was held in Lula, a more challenging than the day prior. The finish of the course has a challenging hill, and Frost was the first to go off again. The field broke up on the hill and Frost again found herself in a break of 4, sprinting to another 3
rd place.
The men's races found themselves racing in scorching heat as well as pouring rain. Through it all, Rogers still came out with a 3
rd place finish in the men's 3/4. The afternoon held the time trial where Frost placed 3
rd in the women's race and Rogers placed 4
th in the men's 3/4.
Sunday, the criterium was held in Demorest at Demorest Elementary school. In the women's race Frost launched an attack mid way into the women's race to form a break of 4 riders in which she sprinted to 3
rd place. In the men's 3/4 Rogers stayed off the front and conserved energy to sprint to 3
rd place.
In the women's omnium, Frost placed 3rd. In the men's 3/4 omnium, Rogers placed 1st.
