ATLANTA - Piedmont women's tennis freshman
Ella Kate Canaday has been selected as the Collegiate Conference of the South Rookie of the Week, announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office.
The standout from Gainesville, Georgia enjoyed a dominant week across both doubles and singles, going 2-0 in each as Piedmont was a perfect 3-0 in its first action since returning from Orlando.
In the team's CCS opener at Huntingdon, Canaday teamed with
Sarah Sanabia to win 6-2 at No. 2 doubles before dispatching her singles opponent in clinical fashion at the No. 3 spot with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Then, on Sunday against a stout non-conference opponent in Pfeiffer, Canaday teamed up with fellow freshman
Kaleigh Stallworth to win 6-1 at the No. 1 doubles spot and help the Lions win the doubles point.
She followed it up with another outstanding performance at No. 3 singles, winning 6-4, 6-3 as the Lions won 5-2 on the road.
Up next, Canaday and the Lions are set for a big home weekend, hosting Belhaven in the CCS home opener with first serve set for this Friday, March 27 at 2 p.m.
