DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's and women's swimming teams are preparing to compete at the Independent South Conference Championship Meet beginning on Thursday. The meet is set to run from Thursday-Saturday in Kingsport, Tennessee. 

Both Piedmont swimming teams claimed the championship last season while for the women's team it marked back-to-back titles. 

The Lions have five seniors anchoring the team on the men's side while the women have three with a total of 13 individual school records held and share a part in eight relay records. 

Following last season's championships, 15 men earned All-Conference honors while the women had 12 student-athletes earn All-Conference nods. Head coach Teddy Guyer was named Coach of the Year for the third straight year by the conference for both the men's and women's programs.

Men's Swimming

Piedmont men's swimming came away with a split in double dual action, dominating Warren Wilson 171-17 but falling to Mars Hill 158.50-46.50.

Individually, Leandro Forero delivered a pair of third-place finishes, with a 10:31.65 in the 1000 free and a 5:06.78 in the 500 free.

Erick Fortner also finished third in two races, including the 200 IM in which he finished just one second out of second place. He also placed second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.31, just over a second behind the event winner.

Women's Swimming

Piedmont women's swimming split double dual action on the road with a win over Warren Wilson and held tough against Division II Mars Hill. The Lions kept pace with Mars Hill in a 116-75 loss while earning a convincing 141-46 win over Warren Wilson. 

Piedmont's lone win of the day came in the 100 Back as Caroline Massaro won with a 1:05.74 besting Mars Hills' Cassidy Hull by two seconds. The Lions' relay teams earned second place in both the 200 medley and the 200 free. In total, Piedmont had 17 top-three finishes. 

Six Lions saw multiple top-three finishes in individual competition in Sydney Addison, Maggie Robinson, Olivia Smith, Donevin Lakey, Madison Nance and Sydney Trafton.
