Teddy Guyer enters his seventh year at Piedmont University in 2024–25 as the Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach after being hired in 2019 to launch the program. Although the Lions did not compete in his inaugural year, Guyer laid the foundation for both programs, which began competition in the 2020–21 academic year. Since then, he has guided Piedmont swimming into becoming a consistent force in the Independent South Swimming Conference (ISSC).

The 2024–25 season continued that upward trajectory, as the men’s team went 7–1 and captured its second consecutive ISSC Conference Championship. On the women’s side, the team finished 6–2 and placed second at the ISSC Meet. Guyer also coached standout Leandro Forero to ISSC Men's Swimmer of the Year honors and helped both programs combine for 25 All-Conference selections and seven CSC Academic All-District honorees.

Through five seasons of competition, Guyer’s programs have amassed an impressive 68–12 overall dual meet record. Under his leadership, the Lions have claimed two women’s conference titles (2023, 2024) and back-to-back men’s championships (2024, 2025). His success has earned him ISSC Coach of the Year recognition in three consecutive seasons (2021–22, 2022–23, 2023–24). During his tenure, Piedmont swimmers have produced over 90 All-Conference honors and four straight CSCAA Scholar All-America Team awards on the women’s side. Academically, he has mentored 22 CSC/CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees.

Guyer came to Piedmont after highly successful head coaching stints at Mars Hill University (2005–2019) and Warren Wilson College (1993–2005), where he started both swim programs from scratch. At Mars Hill, he compiled a 208–37 dual meet record and coached 75 All-Conference swimmers, 19 NCAA national qualifiers, and multiple All-Americans. His men’s team earned back-to-back top-25 national finishes in 2012 and 2013, and he was named Conference Coach of the Year five times.

At Warren Wilson, he posted a 146–36 dual meet record and twice earned Conference Coach of the Year honors while mentoring 39 All-Conference swimmers. He was inducted into the Warren Wilson College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.

Overall, Guyer boasts a career dual meet record of 422–85, with over 160 All-Conference swimmers, 19 NCAA national qualifiers, and eight career Coach of the Year awards. In 2013, he received a Certificate of Coaching Excellence from the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA).

A native of North Carolina, Guyer graduated from Western Carolina University in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education.
