2024 PIEDMONT WOMEN'S LACROSSE SEASON RECAP

  • The Piedmont women's lacrosse team ended the 2024 season with a 10-9 record, including a 7-2 mark in conference play.
  • The Lions won seven in a row in conference play starting with a 15-14 win over Southern Virginia that came down to the final seconds before moving on to the USA South Tournament.
  • Piedmont earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament for the second year in a row and a home contest against No. 6 Pfeiffer once again.
    • Piedmont handled the regular season matchup against Pfeiffer with ease, winning 16-8. The Lions saw similar results in the playoff contest, eliminating the Falcons with a dominant 24-6 win.
  • Four Lions earned USA South honors following the regular season as Ava Trankina earned first team honors for the second year in a row while Maggi Spratlin and Tamar Tompkins earned second team honors and Aly Reece took home third team honors.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

  • Piedmont traveled to Southern Virginia to open USA South play, looking to pick up their first win over the Knights in school history.
  • The Lions opened the scoring in the contest but a six-goal run in the first from Southern Virginia saw the Lions trailing 11-7 at half. 
  • In the second half, Piedmont's defense silenced the opposing offense, allowing zero goals in the third period and conceeded the first goal of the half with just 4:44 left in the game. On the offensive end, six unanswered goal rallied the Lions back into the contest.
  • The Lions conceeded three late goals and with under 30 seconds left, the game was tied at 14-14.
  • With 14 seconds left, Jadyn Gleason scored the game winning goal, lifting the Lions to a 15-14 win over Southern Virginia. 
  • The Lady Lions went 7-2 during the USA South regular season play, winning the first seven games of conference play. 
  • Piedmont began the win streak with a last-second victory over Southern Virginia before taking down Pfeiffer 16-8.
  • The momentum carried over into the next pair of contests as the Lions defeated N.C. Wesleyan and Huntingdon by a combined score of 37-3.
  • William Peace fell 23-1 in Demorest while the Lions handed Greensboro a 21-1 loss on the road.
  • In their last home win of the regular season, Piedmont dismantled Brevard 22-5 at the WAC.

  • Aly Recce broke multiple program records during the 2024 season.
  • Against Brevard, Reece posted 10 assists, breaking her own record from earlier in the season for single-game assists.
  • Her assist total also pushed her over the single-season program record for assists.
  • Reece went on to finish the season with 57 assists for the new program record.
  • The Lions faced Preiffer for the second time in 2024, and for the second year in a row took on the Falcons in the Opening Round of the USA South Tournament.
  • The No. 3 Lions once again jumped on No. 6 Pfeiffer early, scoring the first five goals of the contest. 
    • After a response from the Falcons, Piedmont once again went on a large offensive run, posting seven unanswered goals before half. 
  • The second half was more of the same, with the Lions outscoring Pfeiffer 7-1 in the third period.
  • The Piedmont defense allowed just one goal in the fourth period as the contest closed 24-6 in favor of the Lions.
