SEASON PREVIEW: Women's Lacrosse

The Piedmont women's lacrosse team is set to open its 2025 season this week on the road, traveling to face SAA foe Oglethorpe Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 6:00 p.m.

  • The Lions are coming off a solid 2024 season, with a 10-9 overall record and a 7-2 mark in conference play.
  • Brooke Thacker stepped into the head coaching role last season, leading the team to a second consecutive 7-2 conference season.
  • Postseason play saw the Lions advance to the semifinal round, where they fell to eventual champions Meredith.
  • Piedmont returns seven of its top eight in points from a season ago led by leading goal scorer Ava Trankina (54) and the leader in assists Aly Reece (57).
  • The USA South Preseason Coaches Poll saw the Lions selected third, behind only Meredith and Methodist.

THE SOCIAL SCENE: BEST OF 2024

  • Brooke Thacker enters her second season as head women's lacrosse coach at Piedmont. After spending two season as assistant women's lacrosse coach, Thacker was elevated to lead the program in the fall of 2023.
  • Her first season at the helm saw Thacker lead the Lions to a 10-9 overall record and a 7-2 mark in conference play. She helped the team win for the first time ever over Southern Virginia and coached four players to All-USA South honors. 
  • In her first season on staff as an assistant, Thacker helped the Lady Lions to a 6-4 conference record and oversaw the development of three All-USA South performers including freshman Merryn Bumpass who led the team in points and goals.
  • Monti Hendrix enters her first season as assistant coach.
