ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Piedmont women's lacrosse team delivered a 15-0 shutout on Friday afternoon at N.C. Wesleyan. The Lions scored early and often and slammed the door shut on any offensive attack from the Battling Bishops.

Ava Trankina continued her offensive onslaught on the USA South, scoring a team-high four goals and adding an assist as the reigning USA South Player of the Week was productive once again. Reigning USA South Defensive Player of the Week Merryn Bumpass got the job done on both sides Friday, matching Trankina with five points (3 g, 2 a) to lead the Lions while also adding three ground balls and a caused turnover.

Senior Maggi Spratlin was the third Lion to reach the five-point mark, equaling Bumpass with three goals and two assists on the day.

Trankina scored three of her five goals in the first 5:50 of the contest with Bumpass adding two in the first 3:10 as the Lions blitzed N.C. Wesleyan out of the gate.

Piedmont led 8-0 after the first period and added three more in the second to lead 11-0 at halftime.

The second half saw the Lions continue to stifle the Battling Bishop offense as they held the shutout intact while adding three more goals, including the first of the career for senior Cierra McFerrin.

Up next, Piedmont will travel for conference play at Huntingdon in Montgomery, Alabama on April 2. 

TURNING POINT:
--Piedmont jumped out to a dominant start with an 8-0 first quarter to set the tone early. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
-- Trankina, Bumpass and Spratlin each totaled a team-high five points on the day.
-- Two-time USA South Rookie of the Week Savannah Limehouse added a goal and an assist.
-- Carson Bezold tallied a team-high three assists, a career best for the sophomore.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
-- Piedmont's defense held N.C. Wesleyan to just one shot attempt.
-- The Lions held a 16-1 edge in draw controls and a 27-6 advantage in ground ball pickups.
