Softball Set to Face LaGrange in Opening Round of CCS Tournament

DEMOREST, Ga. - The No. 4 Piedmont University softball team is set to face No. 5 LaGrange in the opening round of the Collegiate Conference of the South tournament at the Huntingdon host site on Wednesday, May 1 at noon.

The Lady Lions went 10-6 in regular season play, dropping their series to Belhaven, Huntingdon and Maryville. 

LAST TIME OUT:

Maryville 3, Piedmont 0; Maryville 6, Piedmont 4 (4/20/23 in Demorest, Ga.)

Piedmont dropped their final regular season series to the Scots of Maryville at home in Demorest.

The Lions offense struggled in Game 1 against the Maryville starter, mustering just three hits in the contest.

In the second game of the day, the Scots jumped out to a five-run lead in the first frame. Piedmont battled back within one run heading into the sixth inning but a late insurance run from Maryville secured them a second win.

REGULAR SEASON V. LAGRANGE

Piedmont 5, LaGrange 1; Piedmont 6, LaGrange 0 (4/14/24 in Demorest, Ga.)

The Lions took both games from the Panthers during the regular season in dominant fashion.

Starter Megan Steinmeyer tossed 6.1 innings of one run softball while holding the visitors offense to just six hits in game one.

In the second game, Summer McCraine and Riley Ford combined for a three-hit shut out of the Panthers offense while the Lions posted six runs.

Kaitlin Isley and Jasmine Lowery both went 5-6 in the doubleheader while combining for five runs scored, three RBI and two stolen bases.

PIEDMONT NOTES:
- The Lions jumped on LaGrange early in both games, scoring in the bottom of the first in each game.
- Piedmont enters the matchup on a four-game losing streak after dropping series to Maryville and No. 5 Berry.
- LaGrange has won just three of its last eight games.
- Kaitlin Isley leads the program with a .435 batting average and is tied for the team lead in hits (40) with Kara Taylor, who leads the team in RBI with 23.
