SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. - The Piedmont women's golf team sits in prime position in second place, just six strokes back of leader Sewanee, after round one of the Music City Shootout. Sophomore
Erin Donovan leads the Lions as she is tied for third overall after a 76 (+4) to open the spring.
Donovan fired another round in the 70s as she has been nothing if not consistent through her Piedmont career. She picked up a pair of birdies on the front nine while making par on 10 holes in round one.
Shelby Clark also sits inside the top 10 after day one after an 81 on Saturday. Clark birdied once and shot worse than bogey just once in the round.
Keegan Goins carded an 83 with
Sarah Fox hot on her heels with an 84. Piedmont's counting scores were all within eight strokes of one another.
Abigail Evans was the final Lion with an 88 in round one and made a pair of birdies on the front nine.
As a team, Piedmont shot a 324 in the opening round, good for second behind Sewanee who shot a 318. Individually, Avery Frick of Augustana College leads the event with a 73, just three strokes better than Donovan.
Round two will conclude the event Sunday in Springfield, Tennessee.
