KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The Piedmont University men's swimming program claimed the Independent South Swimming Conference Championship following a stellar final day of action. The Lions led by just one point after the first day of action before extending their lead to 34 points headed into the last day. Piedmont claimed the title by a total of 53 points over the second place Knights of Southern Virginia.
Day three action began with freshman
Murphy O'Brien grabbing second place in the 200 yard backstroke (2:01.40). Senior
Zane Morgan also grabbed crucial points in the event, swimming a 2:10.20 for fifth place.
In the 100 yard freestyle, senior
Ross Coppedge and sophomore
Alex Pangelinan grabbed fifth and sixth place. Coppedge turned in a time of 48.22 while Pangelinan recorded a 50.84.
Junior
Erick Fortner won the 200 yard breaststroke in one of the tightest finishes of the day. He turned in a 2:07.22, just .30 seconds faster than second place. Piedmont also claimed fourth, fifth and sixth with freshman

Sam Teed swimming 2:19.97 and senior
Jon Brown swimming 2:19.97.
In the 200 yard butterfly, sophomore
Luke Borgmann claimed third place (2:02.59) while junior
Glynn Morgan turned in a fourth place finish (2:04.21) and freshman
Josh Martinez picked up sixth (2:20.85).
The final event of the meet, confirming the Lions victory, freshman
Perry Westbrook, junior
Leandro Forero, Pangelinan and Coppedge swam the 400 yard freestyle relay. The group's time of 3:16.58 earned them second place in the event as the program claimed the 2024 Independent South Swimming Conference Championship.
