DEMOREST, Ga. - The No. 4 Piedmont University softball team is set to take on No. 5 Covenant in the first round of the Collegiate Conference of the South tournament at the Belhaven host site.
The Lady Lions went 10-6 in conference play during the regular season, winning big series against Covenant and LaGrange to secure their seeding.
LAST TIME OUT:
Maryville 6, Piedmont 4; Maryville 5, Piedmont 3 (4/22/23 in Maryville, Tenn.)
Piedmont dropped their final contests of the regular season to Maryville in two close contests.
Maryville jumped out to an early lead in game one and proceeded to hold off a late Piedmont rally to secure the first win 5-3.
Game two was a back and forth contest, with the Piedmont offense keeping them in the game.
JASMINE LOWERY and
NATALIE HANSON both recorded late RBIs in the contest, tying the score line at 4-4 in the top of the 6th. However, the momentum was short lived as Maryville responded in the home half, stretching the lead back to two and closing the contest 6-4.

REGULAR SEASON V. COVENANT
Piedmont 16, Covenant 9; Piedmont 17, Covenant 2 (4/1/23 at Covenant)
The Lady Lions took down Covenant during their regular season doubleheader in convincing fashion. The squad dominated both contests as the offense put up its best numbers all season against the Scots.
In game one, the power came to life for the Lady Lions as they were led by a two home run game from
KARA TAYLOR and a bomb from
MADISON HENRY.
EMMA MCBRAYER also picked up her 11th win of the year while going 4-5 from the dish.
Piedmont kept its foot on the gas in game two scoring 17 runs in the contest. Henry continued her brilliant day plating four more RBIs and blasted another home run while
RILEY FORD threw four innings of scoreless softball and collected three RBIs from the dish.

PIEDMONT NOTES:
- The Lady Lions jumped on Covenant early in both games combining for 16 runs in the first two frames of each game.
- The Scots enter the contest with all the momentum as they are on a five-game overall win streak and have won their last six CCS contests.
- Piedmont comes into the matchup just 4-10 over the month of April and on a four-game losing streak.
