GAME 1 - Piedmont 16, Covenant 9
There were fireworks left and right in Game 1 as both teams came out swinging.
Piedmont threw the first haymaker, connecting with a four-spot in the first frame behind a
KARA TAYLOR two RBI double and a
MADISON HENRY two run home run. The Scots scratched one in the bottom of the 1st but Piedmont was far from done at the plate.
KARA TAYLOR launched a two run blast of her own in the top of the second, pushing the lead to 6-1. Starting pitcher
EMMA MCBRAYER gave herself some insurance as she doubled home Henry, attempting to put the Scots away early. Covenant responded in the bottom half of the 3rd, plating two runs off McBrayer and get the deficit back to a manageable 7-3.Â
The lead stretched to seven in the top of the 4th.
HANNAH MORGAN singled home
HANNAH CALLAWAY and Morgan crossed the plate later in the inning.
KELSYN LUNDELL also plated a run in the inning, grounding out to the pitcher but bringing home
KENNEDY VOTAVA.
Covenant again refused to go quietly, scoring runs in the bottom of the 4th and 5th.Â
Piedmont added to their lead for the final time in the 6th and 7th before the Scots attempted one last rally. Though they rallied for a pair in the bottom of the 7th, the Piedmont offense had already done the damage and the contest closed 16-9.
GAME 2 - Piedmont 17, Covenant 2 (F/5)
The Lady Lions picked up right where they left off in Game 1, bringing the electric offense back for Game 2. However, this time Covenant's offense was no where to be found.
Piedmont dropped seven in the first frame, batting around and forcing a pitching change out of the Scots. The squad recorded six hits in the inning from
JASMINE LOWERY,
KAITLIN ISLEY,
EMMA MCBRAYER,
RILEY FORD,
HANNAH SMITH and Lowery again.Â
The onslaught of offense continued as Piedmont added two runs in the 2nd and another seven runs in the 4th totaling 17-0.
Though the Scots finally scored a pair in the bottom of the 5th but the contest finished in a 17-2 run rule at the conclusion of the inning.Â
