MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Piedmont University softball team dropped both games against Maryville in two hard fought contests. The Lady Lions attempted to battle back in game one but fell just short while going back and forth with the Scots in game two.

GAME 1 - Piedmont 3, Maryville 5

The Scots struck early against Piedmont starter RILEY FORD, scoring a pair in the first behind a two out triple.

Two out hits continued to worsen the score line as Maryville once again scored three with two gone in the bottom of the second, taking a 5-0 lead into the middle innings.

Chipping away in the fourth, Piedmont plated a pair of runs to cut the lead to 5-2. A leadoff single from JASMINE LOWERY followed by a single from KAITLIN ISLEY set the stage for a big inning. MADISON HENRY reached with one out to load the bases for HANNAH MORGAN, who reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Lowery. KENNEDY VOTAVA singled home Isley with two outs as Piedmont looked to climb back in the contest.

The Lady Lions attempted a late rally, scoring in the top of the seventh but the game closed with a 5-3 score line in favor of Maryville.

GAME 2 - Piedmont 4, Maryville 6

The Scots jumped on starter MEGAN STEINMEYER in the bottom of the first, scoring the opening run.

Piedmont struck back in the top of the third, tying the contest. NATALIE HANSON led off the inning with a single, advanced to second on a sac bunt and scored on a JASMINE LOWERY single.

Maryville struck once again, starting the top of the fourth with a double to right center. As the threat progressed, Maryville put runners on second and third with no one gone and knocked them in with a single and a sac fly.

The Lady Lions once again cut into the lead, making the deficit just one. A two out KARA TAYLOR double scored KENNEDY VOTAVA as Maryville carried a 3-2 lead into the final frames.

Once again, Maryville extended their lead, scoring one in the bottom half of the fifth.

Refusing to back down, Piedmont tied the contest 4-4 in the top of the sixth. Following a leadoff single and a walk, the Lady Lions traded an out to advance the runners into scoring position. Piedmont then capitalized, with NATALIE HANSON recording an RBI groundout and then JASMINE LOWERY adding an RBI single.

The momentum was short lived as Maryville responded with a pair of their own in the bottom half of the frame and closed out the contest with a 6-4 win.

KAITLIN ISLEY went 2-4 with an RBI in game one.
- KENNEDY VOTAVA went 2-3 with an RBI in game one.
