ATLANTA, Ga. - The Piedmont University track & field program traveled to Atlanta to take part in the Emory Invitational. The team battled rough weather conditions on day one of the two day event, with the men's program finishing 11th out of 17 teams while the women finished 12th out of 21 teams.
In the men's 800m dash, Piedmont took three of the top ten spots with
JACOB BALOT leading the charge. Balot's 1:54.85 earned him a 2nd place finish while teammates
CONNOR CREEDON (1:56.49) and
DARIUS SMITH (1:57.11) finished 6th and 10th in the event.
JAYCIE PONCE continued her success with a 7th place (2:24.08) finish in the women's 800m dash. Teammate
SKYLER SEEBER also picked up a top 10 finish, running a 19:21.40 in the 5000m for 6th place.
For the Invite portion of the men's 1500m,
GARY HALVERSON put on a show, running an impressive 3:58.61 and crossing in second for the event.
Two Lions picked up top five finishes in the men's 400m hurdles.
SILAS GOOLSBY narrowly edged out teammate
GARRETT STADLER by .2 seconds, running a 57.45 while Stadler turned in a 57.65. Stadler's top five finish was matched by him in the men's high jump with another 5th place (1.70m).
In the field events, Piedmont found multiple top 10 finishes across both programs. On the women's side,
ALLIE FELTUS placed 4th (37.91m) in the discus and 6th in the hammer throw (38.33m) while Courtney Brown placed 5th in the javelin throw (29.17m).
KAI DOYLE and Samantha Seymour also went back to back in the 9th (9.89m) and 10th (9.87) places spots in the triple jump.
JAZIAH UPSHAW and
ETHAN JACKSON both placed 9th in their respective field events. Upshaw jumped 11.28m in the triple jump while Jackson's best throw in the discus went 36.04m.
Up next, Piedmont heads to Cleveland, Tenn. for the Lee Invitational on March 25.
