CARY, N.C. – The Piedmont University men's swim team finished second at the Independent South Swimming Championships as Head Coach Teddy Guyer was named Conference Coach of the Year.
The Lions finished in a solid second place behind conference winner Southern Virginia while being over 200 points ahead of third place William Peace.
The third day of competition was highlighted by
LEANDRO FORERO breaking the conference record in the 1650-yard freestyle, turning in a time of 16:48.27. The previous record was broken by nearly 12 seconds as Forero swam away with the victory. In addition to Forero's conference record, Piedmont swam 11 school records fall on the men's side.
In the 200 yard backstroke,
PARKER REASON finished in 3
rd with a 2:04.56 while teammate
JON BROWN also found a third place (2:12.29) finish in the 200 yard breaststroke.
ERICK FORTNER finished directly behind Brown just over .04 seconds after and
BRANDON RANDALL touched in 5
th.
LUKE BORGMANN put on a phenomenal performance in the 200 yard butterfly, swimming a 2:01.43 and finishing just behind first place.
Rounding out the meet, Forero, Fortner,
BADEN STEWART and Brown swam a combined 3:16.92 in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The squad finished in second place for the event.
