ROME, Ga. - The Piedmont women's golf team is in the hunt while standout sophomore
Erin Donovan holds the individual lead after the first round of the Chick-fil-A Invitational was completed Monday in Rome, Georgia.
Donovan's 1-over 74 was the headliner but the Lions received solid play across the board and trail just Huntingdon with 18 holes to go.
Piedmont delivered a team score of 318 (+26) and sit just six back of the Hawks heading into Tuesday's final round.
Chasing her second solo individual victory of the season, Donovan birdied hole No. 1 and eagled hole No. 2 to jump out to a fast start. She then added two more birdies on her round to finish with a 74 and a one stroke lead over Huntingdon's Caroline Cuthbertson.
Shelby Clark birdied the first hole and made 13 pars on her way to a 7-over 80.
Sophomore
Caitlyn Chilito made a pair of birdies on the back nine to deliver a solid 81.
Piedmont's final counting score came courtesy of
Keegan Goins, who carded a 10-over 83 that included a birdie at the par-3 4th and only one score worse than bogey on her card.
Sarah Fox was the final Lion, posting a non-counting 85.
As a team, the Lions are nine shots clear of third-place.
The final round will be a shotgun start, beginning at 9 a.m.

- Donovan has a tie for 1st and a solo win in the three tournaments she has competed in so far this fall. She is within reach of another trophy, leading by one with 18 holes to play.
- Chilito fired a season-best round of 81 to help the Lions to a strong start.
