ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Piedmont men's swimming team defeated both Warren Wilson and Greensboro in a double dual hosted in Asheville, N.C. The Lions dominated the action across the board leading to 100+ point wins over both opponents.
Eddie Choi,
Erick Fortner,
Luke Borgmann and
Ross Coppedge kicked off the event hot for the Lions, picking up the win in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:38.80.
Freshman
Perry Westbrook kept the wins going, grabbing first in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:53.66).
In the 200 yard freestyle,
Leandro Forero placed first with a 1:51.80 while teammate
Ross Coppedge placed second with a 1:55.15. Forero also won the 500 yard freestyle later on in the day in 5:05.32.
Choi picked up his first individual win on the day in the 100 yard backstroke, besting teammate
Murphy O'Brien by two seconds with a 56.17. His second individual win would come later in the day in the 200 yard backstroke where he once again bested O'Brien by two second with a 2:02.21.
It was a tight race in the 100 yard breaststroke as the Lions claimed first, second and third. Fortner (1:00.70) narrowly out touched freshman
Obed Miranda (1:01.36) while
Jon Brown (1:04.70) was hot on both of their heels.
Piedmont once again took the top three spots in the 50 yard freestyle with sophomore
Alex Pangelinan (22.84) besting teammates
Luke Borgmann (23.29) and Coppedge (23.65). Coppedge turned around directly after and bested Pangelinan in the 100 yard freestyle, winning the event in 51.58.
Obed Miranda picked up a big individual win in the 200 yard breaststroke, turning in a time of 2:20.73 with freshman
Ryan Smith (2:30.40) coming in second behind him.
Borgmann secured a win in the 100 yard butterfly (55.98) while Choi, Brown, Pangelinan and him closed out the day with a narrow win in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Up next, Piedmont will travel back to Asheville once again next weekend on Saturday, October 28 for another double dual.
