ATLANTA, Ga. - The Piedmont women's tennis team concluded its fall season this past weekend at the ITA Regionals in Atlanta.
Junior
ABBEY GRACE VENHAM enjoyed an outstanding two days, going 4-1 overall in singles play and winning the A Consolation Draw. After dropping her opening match to Lea Letourneau from Rhodes (6-3, 6-3), Venham went on a tear, winning four consecutive matches in the consolation bracket to take the draw.

Her first match in the consolation bracket was a battle, but she prevailed, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 over Agnes Scott's Ama White.
Former USA South Player of the Year and two-time All-Conference peformer
IMANI VINCENT won her first match in the A draw, defeating Mary Rask from Rhodes, 0-6, 6-2, 6-3 before falling in her second match to Alexa Goetz from nationally-ranked Emory.
Sophomore
ALYSSA MCSPADDEN also had an impressive showing in the A draw. After dropping her opening match to go into the consolation draw, McSpadden won two consecutive matches to make it to the A Draw Consolation Semifinals before losing in a grueling third-set matchbreaker to Rask from Rhodes.
Newcomer
SARAH ROW highlighted B Draw play for the Lady Lions as she won three consecutive matches in the consolation bracket after falling in her opening match.
KAITLYN HOUSE picked up a pair of wins for the Lady Lions while freshman
AMANDA BARRETT emerged victorious from a marathon third-set superbreaker, 17-15, to earn a win over Oglethorpe's Brianna Ivey
Overall, 17 Lady Lions competed during the weekend and 12 picked up at least one singles victory.
The Lady Lions took six doubles victories on the weekend, highighted by
DANNIE EVANS and
BROOK PATTON, who went 3-1 as partners. The duo lost their opening match to a pair from Sewanee but then went on a tear, picking up victories against teams from Agnes Scott (8-1), Oglethorpe (8-3) and Millsaps (8-7 (2)).
Piedmont heads into the spring season with momentum after a strong fall showing, looking to build upon 2021's record-breaking season that saw the team win its first ever USA South Tournament Championship and receive an NCAA Tournament berth (and win) for the first time in program history.
The 2022 spring season is scheduled to begin on Feb. 18 with a road match at Johnson & Wales (N.C.).
