MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Piedmont women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance at the Huntingdon Invitational this past weekend.
The Lady Lions picked up 19 total wins, going 13-4 in singles action and 6-4 in doubles competition.
Piedmont went undefeated in singles play against the three Division III opponents and lost only once in doubles, to a regionally ranked doubles team from Oglethorpe.
Overall, 11 different Lady Lions picked up a singles win over the two days, led by two wins from
ABBEY GRACE VENHAM and
IMANI VINCENT. Venham delivered a win in a marathon match against Wallace State's Italia Jones, 6-0, 7-6 (6), 11-9.
Two-time All-Conference selection Vincent rolled to a 6-4, 6-0 win over Wallace State's Alexandra Luders.
In singles action, 12 of Piedmont's 13 victories were in straight sets, while
BRIANA LAIDMAN rallied back after dropping the first set to win her match against Huntingdon's Marissa Lajone, 5-7, 6-1, 10-4.
Doubles play was highlighted by the Lady Lions taking three out of four against SAA foe Oglethorpe.
MARION SLOYAN and
ALYSSA MCSPADDEN delivered a dominant 8-0 shutout while Venham an
DAKOTA WILKES won 8-3 and
DANNIE EVANS and
BROOK PATTON won by the same margin.
Playing against new Collegiate Conference of the South foe Belhaven, The Lions swept the Blazers with wins from
KAITLYN HOUSE/Sloyan,
LIZZIE IVEY/McSpadden and
AMANDA BARRETT/
LEXIE WASHBURN.
Up next, Piedmont will travel to Atlanta to take part in the ITA Regionals beginning this Friday, Sept. 23.
