LANSING, Mich. - In frigid conditions, Piedmont senior
JAYCIE PONCE competed at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning in Lansing, Michigan.
Ponce delivered a time of 25:14.7 in the 6k at the Forest Acres Golf Course, where snow was on the ground in the morning. The Hoschton, Georgia native placed 280th out of 292 runners competing.
Â
Loras College's Kassie Parker took home the individual title for the second straight season with a time of 21:06,5.
Â
Ponce becomes the second Piedmont runner to compete in the NCAA Championships, joining Val Angel, who accomplished the feat last season.
Last weekend, Ponce earned All-Region honors to qualify for the national championships and in the process led the Lady Lions to a program-best ninth-place finish at the NCAA
South Regionals.
She ends her Piedmont cross country career having become the first ever champion in the newly formed Collegiate Conference of the South while also leading the Lady Lions to the team title.
