LaGRANGE, Ga. – The Piedmont College women's tennis team fell, 5-0, to N.C. Wesleyan in the USA South Tournament Final on Sunday afternoon at the McCluskey Tennis Center.
The Lady Lions (19-5) were unable to capture a doubles point and the Battling Bishops (15-4) won in two sets at No. 4 and No. 6 singles to clinch the conference championship.
N.C. Wesleyan quickly put a point on the board with an 8-1 win from its No. 3 doubles team of Giulia Zanetti and Nicole Halabi.
Piedmont battled at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, but ultimately fell, 8-4, in both matches and were down 3-0 heading into singles.
Needing just two points to clinch the match, N.C. Wesleyan first picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 before clinching the title with Stephany Barbera's 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6.
At the time of the clinch, each of the remaining four matches were in the second set with N.C. Wesleyan up a set in three.
MAGGIE MOODY shined for PC, taking her first set, 6-1, at No. 5.
The season ends for the Lady Lions with a program-record 19 wins.
