LaGRANGE, Ga. – The Piedmont College women's tennis team won 5-3 on Saturday over Methodist University to advance to the USA South Tournament Championship.
MORGAN BUCHHOLZ provided the clincher at No. 2 singles in a match that came down to the wire.
The Lady Lions took a 2-1 lead after doubles play with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Buchholz and
MEGAN WALDHEIM won 8-3 at No. 1 while
CRYSALIN GLORIA and
KARA LANDSIEDEL made quick work at No. 3 for the first win of the day 8-1.
CAROLINE CONNELLY and
MAGGIE MOODY put up a tough fight at No. 2 doubles but lost 8-4.
In singles play, it was Landsiedel who finished first at No. 4 for a 6-3, 6-3 win to put the Lady Lions ahead 3-1. The Monarchs pulled back to make it 3-2 with a win at No. 5 singles, but
CAROLINE CONNELLY won at No. 1 to extend the lead to 4-2.
Needing just one of the final three matches, Piedmont dropped No. 6 before
MORGAN BUCHHOLZ clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win.
Up next, Piedmont will face N.C. Wesleyan at 2 p.m. Sunday at McCluskey for the USA South Tournament Championship.
