Sewanee, TN - The Piedmont College women's tennis team fell in their 2017 season opener to nationally ranked Sewanee with the #13 Tigers taking down the Lady Lions by a 9-0 scoreline.
Sewanee won all three doubles decisions to take a 3-0 lead into singles action but swept the remaining the decisions as well en route to the victory at home.
The win gave the Tigers a victory in their season opener as Piedmont will now take on Centre College on Saturday to complete its two-game road trip in Tennessee that begins the spring.
Turning Point
--The Tigers rolled in doubles action dropping only two games in the three decisions combined to overtake PC early in the match.
Standout Performances
--The Tigers lineup was impressive in doubles play but also saw a strong performance from Sara Thompson at #3 singles who took her match 6-0, 6-0 from Piedmont's
DURDEN SMITH.
Inside the Box Score
--Darby Duval defeated
MORGAN BUCHHOLZ at the #1 singles spot with Duval carrying the #14 ranking regionally as an individual into the match.

--Sewanee came in as the #13 team in the country with a #3 ranking in the South Atlantic Region.

Piedmont takes on Centre College tomorrow, February 11 in a neutral site match hosted by Sewanee to wrap up the two-game road trip for the Lady Lions to start the year.
