Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College women's tennis team picked up its third straight conference win earlier Sunday afternoon defeating Averett University 7-2 at Burgen Tennis Courts.

The Lady Lions took two of three doubles matches to carry a 2-1 lead into the singles portion of the match.  With a slim lead in hand, Piedmont dominated in singles playing winnning at five of the six singles slots. 

AMANDA BLACKWELL led the way with a straight sets decision at #4 in which the veteran did not drop a game to her opponent, the second straight time Blackwell has done so.  Youngsters MORGAN COWART and DURDEN SMITH each grabbed singles wins as well.  

KARINA RIVERA dropped just one game in her win at #5 singles while newcomer TABEA SOELTER won her third decision of the year.

Piedmont gets back in action when the Lady Lions travel to take Mary Baldwin College this coming Thursday.

Turning Point
--Piedmont dominated singles play to solidify the decision after picking up two doubles wins as the Lady Lions won five of six singles spots.

Standout Performances
--AMANDA BLACKWELL won her 5th singles decision in her last seven matches with a straight sets decision over Angelica Orlikowski.
--KARINA RIVERA won at #5 singles to push her record to 5-2 at the #5 slot this season.

Inside the Box Score
--Blackwell's 6-0, 6-0 win at #4 is the second straight time she has won a singles decision without dropping a game.

News & Notes
--Five different Lady Lions have won their last two singles decisions including Blackwell, Cowart, Rivera, Smith, and Soelter.

Up Next
The Lady Lions stay in conference play, but they will hit the road for three straight heading to Mary Baldwin College for the first of three in a conference weekend.  Piedmont takes on the Fighting Squirrels on March 24 before taking on NC Wesleyan on March 25.
