LaGrange, GA - The Piedmont College women's tennis team got off to a great start in today's 6-3 win over LaGrange College fending off the Panthers in singles play after claiming a 3-0 lead following the doubles portion of the match.
Piedmont's play in doubles set the tone for the day as
NICOLE PARRISH and
AMANDA BLACKWELL picked up their team-high 5th doubles win of the season with an 8-5 decision at the #1 doubles spot. The freshman duo of
MORGAN COWART and
DURDEN SMITH were the victors at #2 doubles winning a tight one 8-6 over Morgan McDonald and Ali Herring.
Cowart and Smith picked up their 4th doubles win with the decision while the #3 doubles win went to
CHRISTIAN WADE and
TATIANA BURKETT who won 8-4 for their first win as a doubles pairing in 2015.
In singles action, LaGrange took the decisions at #1, #2, and #4 singles, but Piedmont was able to win the remaining three to hold off the charging Panthers for the 6-3 win.
NICOLE PARRISH earned the win at #3 for her team-best 7th singles win of the year.
Accounting for the final singles wins were two newcomers to the Lady Lions this season with
MORGAN COWART winning in three sets at the #5 slot for her 5th singles win of the year.
KARINA RIVERA was the winner at #6 singles in straight sets over Lauren Schexnayder.
With the win, Piedmont moves to 5-10 overall and is now 4-5 in conference action. The Lady Lions will be back in action this coming weekend when Piedmont travels to play at Greensboro College on Saturday, April 11 for a 2:00 pm match before wrapping up the regular season on Sunday, April 12 with a match against Averett University, both USA South foes for PC.
