Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College women's tennis team could not rally from a 2-1 deficit in doubles play against the visiting Hawks of Huntingdon College earlier today in a USA South match at Burgen Tennis Courts falling 6-3.
DURDEN SMITH and
MORGAN COWART would get an 8-1 victory at the #2 doubles slot to move their record to 3-5 as a pairing but the Hawks picked up the wins at #1 and #3 doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles action.
After the freshmen pairing in doubles gave Piedmont a chance, the Hawks started to take control in the singles portion winning four of the six decisions from the home-standing Lady Lions.
NICOLE PARRISH picked up one of Piedmont's two singles victories winning at #3 singles in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-0.
Parrish moves to 6-5 in singles on the year with the win and is now 4-2 in USA South action as well.
Winning at #4 singles was the freshman
DURDEN SMITH who won in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 over Huntingdon's Sara Duran to pick up her fifth singles win including a third in conference play.
The loss drops Piedmont to 4-9 overall and 3-4 in USA South play. The Lady Lions will not have long to rest as they head up the mountain to face Covenant College on Tuesday, April 7 for yet another USA South showdown.
