Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College women's tennis team was handed its third straight loss with a 9-0 shutout to North Carolina Wesleyan College earlier today at Burgen Tennis Courts. The Battling Bishops, ranked 9th in the region, moved to 7-2 having won their last seven matches as N.C. Wesleyan is an undefeated 7-0 in league play.
The competition involved two regionally ranked players in N.C. Wesleyan's Natalia Lopez and Maria Fernanda Orona as the two combined for a win at #1 doubles and are currently ranked by the ITA as the 13th ranked doubles pairing in the South Atlantic Region.
Also ranked in singles play at #19 in the region, Lopez won at #1 singles in straight sets over
CHRISTIAN WADE as well.
The Lady Lions move to 3-7 overall with the loss dropping to 2-3 in USA South play.
Piedmont will now take a step out of conference play for its next action taking on Oglethorpe University this coming Tuesday, March 31 in Atlanta, Georgia. First serve vs. the in-state foe is set for 3:30 pm.
