Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College women's tennis team pushed several singles decisions but fell 8-1 to visiting Methodist University earlier this afternoon at Burgen Tennis Courts.
Preseason favorites to win the league for a 6th consecutive season, Methodist dropped a decision to PC for the first time since the Lady Lions became a USA South member prior to the 2013 season. The Monarchs have dropped only 13 decisions in 24 conference wins during that same time period.
Piedmont's winner came at the #4 singles spot with
DURDEN SMITH winning in three 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 as the freshman is now a perfect 2-0 in singles action within the USA South portion of the schedule. Smith also picked up a win in Piedmont's win over William Peace on Friday evening.
Two others also pushed three sets in singles play with
NICOLE PARRISH falling 5-7, 6-3, 10-3 at the #3 spot while
MORGAN COWART fell 7-5, 5-7, 10-6 at #5 singles. Methodist collected all three doubles decisions to start out three ahead and claimed five of the six singles matches for the 8-1 win moving to 6-4 overall and now 2-0 in conference.
Piedmont's loss in the first for the Lady Lions in conference play as the Green and Gold are now 2-1 in three league matches and 2-4 overall.
The Lady Lions will be back in action this coming Wednesday as the team travels south to play Point University in West Point near the Georgia & Alabama state line. First serve is set to drop at 2:30 in the March 18 match.
