Sewanee, TN - The Piedmont College women's tennis team could not get much going against the nation's 21st ranked team as the Sewanee Tigers handed PC a 9-0 loss in the Lady Lions' spring season opener. Piedmont falls to 0-2 overall after dropping a 6-3 decision in a dual match against Columbia College back in October of 2014.
Doubles pairing
AMANDA BLACKWELL and
NICOLE PARRISH pushed the Tigers at #2 doubles, but eventually fell 8-4 to the team of Veron and Crumbliss from Sewanee. The Tigers move to 1-0 overall after the win.
Youngster
MORGAN COWART started strong in her singles decision after dropping the opening set 6-0 rallying to win the second 6-4 to set up a decisive third against her opponent, Sydney Peterson of Sewanee. Cowart fell 10-7 to drop the point, the closest PC came to claiming a point in the Friday afternoon match.
The 9-0 loss is the first shutout loss for PC since a March 8 loss to Methodist in 2014. Piedmont will play Centre College on Saturday morning in Sewanee, Tennessee to wrap up its two-match road trip to start spring 2015.
